Details

Under the UK Marine Policy Statement the MMO has an obligation to ensure potential cumulative effects are taken into account in decision-making.The identification and evaluation of potential environmental, social, and economic effects of marine activities allows for effective management measures to be established to minimise or remove negative effects.

The aim of this project was to develop a consistent approach to the identification and consideration of cumulative effects that can be applied at the strategic level across all relevant MMO functions. The project also included a review of current evidence and the production of a toolkit, or series of options, to facilitate appropriate and proportionate management of cumulative effects and mitigation measures.
